European cooperation
While the working group has initiated the development of a label, it is convinced that a label can only be successful if there is international support. Close cooperation has already been established with organisations and companies in Western Europe: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, England, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
Getting started with your suppliers
About 20 European companies have already drawn up working plans for improvements with their suppliers using the code. Importers go through the following steps:
- Code recognition;
- Work plan with a clear budget;
- Supplier information and commitment to implement the code:
- Monitoring the extent to which all suppliers meet the standards;
- Agree improvement plans with suppliers;
- Make sure that the improvement plans are implemented;
- Public reporting on progress.
